Invoice loads and data in Cimpl

When an invoice is loaded into Cimpl, its data is burned into the application for the month that it pertains to. This creates a "snapshot" of data for each month, that is then saved in the database.

This means that, for example, if an invoice for March is received, and it states that Person A owns Device B, then they are listed as the owner of Device B whenever looking at data for the month of March, since this has been burned into Cimpl's database based on the invoice load. This does not mean that Person A still owns Device B, only that Person A owned Device B when this data was burned.

All of the point-in-time data in Cimpl is burned according to whatever data is on the invoices that are loaded onto Cimpl each month. The following areas of Cimpl are affected by data burning:

The rest of Cimpl's data is based on the most current and up to date information that has been loaded into the platform.

Timeline

When you use the timeline to view data from select time periods, the data you are viewing has been burned into Cimpl. This means that when looking through other areas of Cimpl that are not based on a timeline, Person C may now be listed as the owner of Device B. Data presented in Self-Service, Inventory, Requests, and so forth is based on the present day instead. Following the previous example, in Self-Service, Person C will have Device B listed as their own. They will have Device B as part of their invoices from the moment it was transferred to them in April and onward. Device B is considered a part of their services and their costs.

Reports

When it comes to running reports, data will vary depending on the timeline. Following this example, if you decide to run a report for the month of March, the data will refer to Person A as the owner of Device B. Even though Person C currently owns Device B, Person A will still be listed as the owner of the device, because the report is based on data that has been burned for the month of March.

Dashboard

The same goes for the Dashboards in Cimpl. When a dashboard is filtered to display specific time periods, it will only display data based on what has been burned from the invoices for that time period. This means that if you filter your dashboard to display the month of March, the costs, users, and services displayed is entirely based on data burned from invoices for the month of March.
